The Village of Germantown is one of the largest villages in the state covering 34 square miles. It is located in the southeast corner of Washington County and is only minutes from downtown Milwaukee. Germantown had a population of 19,749 residents as of the 2010 census.
Germantown originally began as “Town 9”, Washington County, Wisconsin Territory back in 1836. The village was originally incorporated in 1924 until it merged with the surrounding towns in 1963. This was because Milwaukee County had annexed a small piece of land for a landfill and the communities felt that merging into one large community would prevent any further annexing from occurring. Over the course of the next few decades, the boundaries continued to change and the village kept getting bigger.
Today, Germantown has become a great place to live with tons of different amenities in the area. There are many different parks in the village spanning over 400 acres of pristine green space. The list of amenities is very extensive and covers everything under the sun. There’s an archery range, community garden, fishing pond, outdoor shelters, playground, and sledding hill just to name a few. The parks department also sponsors a recurring event called Music at the Pavilion. During summer, experience live music at the pavilion in Fireman’s Park, free of charge. For updated information about this event, check out their Facebook page here. The Blackstone Creek Golf Club is located in the heart of Germantown and is an excellent option for those looking to get a round in any day of the week. The Menominee River runs through the course, providing a unique and challenging experience.
For those looking to have fun year round, check out Germantown. The exceptional housing and high quality of life will make you want to stay forever. If you’re interested in the Germantown area, check out some of the listings below and contact an agent today!
